UP Alumni Achievers: Julius Rhoan Lustro
Engr. Julius Rhoan Lustro, PhD is an assistant professor at the UP Department of Mechanical Engineering since 2020 and has been teaching courses, mostly on fluid dynamics and turbulence. He has previously taught at the Department of Engineering Science in UP Los Banos from 2013 to 2016.
His research interests include Fluid Dynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Turbulence, Transition to Turbulence, Chaos, and Dynamical Systems. His master’s and doctoral study are focused on characterizing the transition to turbulence in wall-bounded shear flows using dynamical systems theory. He has presented in numerous conferences and published in reputable journals in the country and abroad, which have been cited by other scientists and researchers in the field. Some of this research include “The onset of transient turbulence in minimal plane Couette flow”, “Route to chaos in minimal plane Couette flow”, “Long-term rigorous numerical integration of Navier-Stokes equation by Newton-GMRES iteration”, and the “Homoclinic Bifurcation, Edge States, And Boundary Crisis in Plane Couette Flow”.
As a young PhD holder faculty, he is currently exploring to expand his research endeavor to the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to areas of energy, agriculture, biomedicine, and meteorology. I look forward to building my own laboratory one day to train future leaders and scientists of our country.
Dr. Lustro received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Philippines Diliman. He finished both his MS and PhD in Engineering from Osaka University 2012 and 2020.
