Engr. Caloy Umali, currently the Head of Globe Telecomβs Inventory Planning & Control, Fleet Management and Warehousing, is still very much married to the IE discipline since he left the campus some three decades ago. From his first job as a research assistant with the UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation Inc. (under Dean Aura Matias) up to the present, he still practices basic IE tools in achieving streamlined work flows, drive down cost initiatives, optimal inventory/resource levels, and cost effective transportation models.
Throughout these years, Caloy has covered a wide array of industries namely: Beverage, Petroleum, Pharmaceutical, Food and Telecommunications. And his work experience revolved around different areas of Inventory Management, Marketing Operations, Warehousing, Transportation and Customer Service, working with companies such as Globe Telecom, Kraft Foods, San Miguel Corporation, Caltex Philippines and Wyeth Philippines.
In these corporate stints, he was able to steer his teams to achieve and even exceed the key performance measures and target savings which were required from them. He attributes all of these to what the Department of Industrial Engineering, UP College of Engineering has taught him.
Outside of work, Caloy is an active member of the Philippine Jaycees, Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines and the Tau Alpha Foundation Inc.
