Solid at 60 plus!

In 2015, the UP ACES alumni and resident members celebrated the 60th Anniversary of UP ACES with the theme, Still Solid at 60! Indeed, senior and young ACES Alumni continue to demonstrate that with the Solid Friendships we gained when we joined ACES, we can take on Big-Time Challenges.

Big Hearts, Bigtime!

Being grateful to its alma mater is in the genes of the UP ACES. The UP ACES Alumni in 1990 gave the UP College of Engineering its first endowed room: Room 301 of Melchor Hall. Always having Big Hearts, the UP ACES Alumni again volunteered, this time to reach out to its members and friends for funds that can finally bring the construction of the ICE Building to its completion. With the Senior ACES Alumni, namely Isidro Consunji of DMCI Group of Companies, Tito Aliling of Jose Aliling Construction Management Group of Companies, and past UP Alumni Engineers (UPAE) President Peter Aventajado, at the helm and with bottles of single-malt whisky, around PhP15 Million was raised for the building.

The younger ACES Alumni raised funds for four (4) rooms of the building: The ACES Meeting Room, The Jose Ma. De Castro Room, the Big ACES Classroom and the UP ACES 84B & 85A Classroom. All ACES Alumni who attended the 2015 Homecoming contributed to The ACES Meeting Room. The funds for The Jose Ma. De Castro Room came from the following young alumni: Peter Pascual, Dennis Nicolas, Tintin Alcantara, Arjun Baleva, Carlos Centeno, Edgar Colmo, Alberto Durana, Gloria Gerilla, Dennis Licos, Jonathan Montecillo, Roland Pacis, Benson Perelonia, and Arnold Redulla.

Contributions for the Big ACES Classroom were from the following members and officers of the ACES Alumni: Olan Dimaano, Francis Felizardo, Ramby Nolido, JJ Tan-Go, Daniel Peckley Jr., Tintin Gonzales-Danao, Leo Labrador, Albert Basilio, Jose Allan Cruz, Samuel De Dios Hernando, Arturo Sapnio Fabia, and Jose Reymundo Mariano Cruz Jr.

Of course, the donors of the ACES 84B & 85A Room were no the other than the members ACES Batches 84B & 85A, among the proudest batches of UP ACES who know how to monetize their pride. They are composed of Ramby Nolido, Marie Nelle Guerrero, Maribelle Ignacio, Glenn Legaspi, Arnold Carlos, and Tony Salvador, Mike Ramolete, Ferdie Asuncion, Noni Limpo, and Anton Pascual.

As individuals, a number of ACES Alumni, together with their families or their companies, also became donors of the building. A partial enumeration of these Big-Hearted Alumni are the following: Egbert Abiad and AMH, Dan Abando and MDC, Raul and Rene Ignacio, Toby and Miriam Tamayo of Tandem Engineering, Mike Sicat and MES Construction, Inc., Brian Tan and Anta Construction Corporation, Mark Morales and PGA Group of Companies, Oliver Chan and Primetech Construction and Trading.

Although fundraising activities of UP ACES Alumni were focused on the ICE Building, individual members of the organization also contributed to the Study-Now-Pay-Later Program of the UPAE and the UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation, Inc. (ERDFI). The ACES Alumni shall continue to be active in the programs and activities of both the UPAE and UPERDFI.

With UP ACES, Friendships remain Solid and Strong. These Solid and Strong Friendships serve as our foundation as we take on Big-Time Challenges!
