UPME Alum Cesar Romero is New President of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum and Country Chairman of Shell Companies

Romero, a UP ME (cum laude) alumnus, was appointed President of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation and Country Chairman of the Shell companies in the Philipines, effective last November 1, 2016, after 12 years of international assignments across London, Singapore, and Beijing.
 
Cesar also serves as Vice President of Shell’s Global Retail Network (since 2013) and is a member of the Shell Global Retail Leadership Team.  He has held various senior positions with different Royal Dutch Shell entities globally and regionally. Among others, he had served as the Vice President of Retail Sales and Operations – East, accountable for all retail petrol stations in 12 countries in SE Asia, South Asia, plus Australia, NZ, and China; Vice President for Supply – East based in Singapore; and Vice President for Downstream Management Consultancy, based in London.
 
Mr. Romero joined Shell as a refinery engineer in 1987. He was first assigned to London in 1995 to work with the Scenario Planning Team. He was the General Manager for Retail Philippines and North Pacific Cluster prior to his second assignment to London in 2004.
 
Romero’s appointment as President and Country Chairman coincides with Pilipinas Shell’s debut at the Philippine Stock Exchange last November 3, the second largest IPO in the country for this year. “We are delighted with the overwhelming response received by Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation from investors globally and see it as a vote of confidence in the future of the company and in its leadership,” said the new president. Romero added, “Being publicly listed opens more opportunities for us as a company. We value being a strategic partner to our stakeholders and we aim to continue to do the same for our investors.”

Aside from his BSME, Cesar holds a Master’s in Business Administration (with high distinction) from the University of Michigan. He had also attended management development courses at the London Business School and the Wharton Business School.
 
Cesar is married and has two children, aged 15 and 13.
