UP President Inducts UPAE 2016 Board of Trustees
The new set of UPAE officers were inducted last February 5, 2017 at the Executive House, with no less than UP President Alfredo Pascual as inducting officer. Departments Chairs from the College of Engineering headed by Dean Aura Matias along with UPERDFI Chair and heads of alumni organizations of IE and EEE, fraternity representatives, the Council of Advisers (composed of past UPAE Presidents), among others, were on hand to witness the oath taking, extend their congratulations, and participate in the dinner and fellowship that followed.
The incoming President, Levy Espiritu, outlined the major thrusts of his administration. His speech is reproduced below:
The message of the 2015 UPAE homecoming theme Engineering Heroes Giving Back still rings loud and clear. It is a call to us, as U.P. Engineering Alumni, to remember that everything we learned and experienced opened doors of opportunities for us, and that we must soon accept the responsibility of giving back. It is a call for us to actively and passionately be involved in building our college, our university, and our country.
If we are to achieve our vision and mission of producing and nurturing excellent engineers and leaders in the service of our country, we must sustain efforts to partner and collaborate with our stakeholders, namely: the University of the Philippines (UP), the College of Engineering (COE), the UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation (ERDFI), as well as the various alumni engineering organizations, associations and fraternities. Specific areas identified as priorities for the coming term include:
1. The UPAE in collaboration with all the stakeholders will continue to work with the UPCOE and industry to maintain its position as the pre-eminent institution for engineering research and education.
2. The UPAE will continue to effectively implement the Study Now Pay Later Program to provide much needed help to deserving engineering students who are financially challenged.
3. In collaboration with UPCOE and UPERDFI, the UPAE has and will continue to support the establishment of additional professorial chairs and scholarships from our alumni and benefactors, which is crucial to the retention of our faculty.
4. Thru the initiative of the UPCOE and UPERDFI, we will hold/support the CEO Forum. Academe-Industry collaboration, which aims to demonstrate the breadth of research being undertaken by UPCOE faculty to the captains of industry and to engage them to support research projects.
5. UPAE will support and strengthen the industry immersion program for the UPCOE students in collaboration with UPCOE our graduating students and industry in response to CHEDs requirement. The UPAE has the necessary network with industry to make this program successful.
6. In partnership with our fellow alumni who have voluntarily and passionately given their time, talent and resources, our student organization and our ED Elise, the UPAE has endeavored to professionalize the organizational structure and function of the UPAE Secretariat to make it more efficient. The website and database has been improved and enhanced making it possible to reach out to our fellow alumni all over the country and around the world, enabling them to participate in the programs of the UPAE and finally give back to the college.
7. We will continue to encourage the active participation of engineering alumni to serve the UPAE in whatever capacity they may deem appropriate: as Director, officer, committee member, donor, and benefactor.
8. We will continue to honor and acknowledge fellow alumni who have excelled in their service to the College, the University, the community, their organization, the industry and the country.
These endeavors will just remain platitudes, without your unwavering and unequivocal support. It is through your support that we can together achieve the vision, objectives and programs of the UPAE, in the true spirit of Engineering Heroes Giving Back.
